Surgeon Profiles:

Dr. Richard Grant is a nationally recognized leader in the field of orthopedic surgery. The author of numerous scientific papers and contributions to book in his area of practice, Dr. Grant was honored to hold the first Dr. Edgar Jackson chair at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is the first African American orthopedic surgeon to become a full-time member of the faculty of University Hospitals of Cleveland.

Dr. Grant served as president of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery from 2002-2003, and was senior director of the Board and was a member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Residency Review Committee for orthopedic surgery.  Dr. Grant is an appointee to the diversity committee of the AmericanAcademy of Orthopedic Surgery and has served as a visiting professor at several major medical schools throughout the country. He previously served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. for 13 years. 

Dr. Lyndon Gross is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and has been a leader in the field of Sports Medicine for over 13 years. He is the Team Physician for college sporting teams including:  The Saint Louis University Billikens basketball team.  Dr. Gross also was the former Assistant Team Physician for the NFL’s Washington Redskins. Currently, Dr. Gross is an Orthopedic Surgeon at The Orthopedic Center of St. Louis.   

Dr. Gross earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology from CornellUniversity and received his Doctorate and Medical Degree, with honors from State University of New York. 

Dr. Gross is a member of the AmericanAcademy of Orthopedic Surgeons; American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine; Arthroscopy Association of North America; American Medical Association; Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the St. Louis Orthopedic Society. In addition, Dr. Gross is an Assistant Professor at Saint Louis University.

Dr. Gross has contributed to a host of published medical journal articles, book chapters and participated in numerous orthopedic presentations.

Dr. Melvyn Harrington is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in HoustonTexas.

Dr. Harrington is a member of the AmericanAcademy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He serves as the Secretary of the J Robert Gladden Orthopedic Society and the Illinois Association of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is also a member of the AAHKS Health Policy Committee and the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board and Leadership Fellows Class of 2006.

Dr. Anthony Michael Harris is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopedics, University of Florida Shands Hospital

A former seaman in the United States Navy, Dr. Harris holds medical licenses in Florida, North Carolina and Ohio.  He has made several presentations at leading industry conferences including the AmericanCollege of Emergency Physicians' National Conference and the Orthopedic Trauma Association.

Dr. Harris is a member of the National Medical Association and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Carla Harwell joined the full time faculty of the Department of Medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1998.  She is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine, CaseWestern Reserve University and practices at the Otis Moss Jr., UniversityHospitals MedicalCenter, where she serves as the Medical Director. She is also an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency training program at UniversityHospitalsCaseMedicalCenter.

Dr. Harwell has been the recipient of numerous awards including Who’s Who in Black Cleveland, the NAACP, YWCA and the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club. She serves on several local and national boards.

Originally from Pittsboro, North Carolina, Dr. Rinelda Horton joined Carolina Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, located in Gastonia, North Carolina after completing her fellowship. She practiced there for nine years before joining Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group in May 2004. 

Her practice consists primarily of adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery. Her primary areas of interest include conservative and operative treatment of osteoarthritis, arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee, hip, and shoulder, and newer techniques of minimally invasive reconstructive surgery.  Dr. Horton is board certified in Orthopedics.

Dr. Audley Mackel is a practicing Orthopedic Surgeon in the ClevelandOhio.  He has been a partner in Associates in Orthopedics, Inc. since 1988.

Dr. Mackel is a member of numerous Medical and Orthopedic Societies including the AmericanAcademy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Association, Ohio Orthopedic Society and the American Medical Association.

He has served in leadership positions as Section Chair of Orthopedics of the National Medical Association, Member-at- Large of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and President of the Cleveland Orthopedic Society. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Mackel’s community and civic service include the Arthritis Foundation of Northeast Ohio, Mt. Zion Congregational Church and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.

He also serves as Chief of Orthopedics at St. VincentCharityHospital and HuronHospitals in Cleveland. He is a Clinical Instructor in Orthopedics at CaseWestern ReserveUniversity.

Dr. Randall Morgan., Jr. is the Executive of the W. Montague Cobb/ National Medical Association (NMA) Health Institute. He also practices orthopedic surgery in Sarasota, Florida and is President of University Park Orthopedics in that community.  Dr. Morgan served as the 95th President of the NMA from 1996-1997. He was the first board certified orthopedic surgeon to hold that position.

Dr. Morgan has practiced medicine in his hometown of Gary, Indiana for over 20 years.  With the assistance of his father, Dr. Randall Morgan Sr., he founded The Orthopedic Centers of Northwestern Indiana and served as its president from 1975 to 1999. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Board of Managed Care Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the AmericanCollege of Surgeons.

Dr. Morgan has been recognized for his contributions to medicine and society by several institutions. Among his many accolades are the following. He was named “Orthopedic Resident of the Year” in 1972 by NorthwesternUniversity and “Physician of the Year” by the National Medical Association, Northwest Indiana Chapter in 1986. In 2005, Dr. Morgan received the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award for National Service and the Joseph Pitts Award for Community Service from the Gary Branch of the NAACP.
